Charity Connect
Since 2022, St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral has selected a different local nonprofit organization as the beneficiary of the proceeds from Greek Festival admissions. The Charity Connect committee coordinates St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral's outreach efforts in our community by helping to select organizations that will receive the unrestricted funds to actively support various populations throughout Greenville County and surrounding areas.
Past recipients include Barbara Stone Foundation, Just Say Something, LiveWell Greenville, GirlUp GVL, and Trailhead Community Farm School.
Each fall, nominations are gathered from St. George community members, and the Charity Connect committee collects and vets them against a set of criteria to narrow the field to three finalists for the Parish council to vote on in January. The selected charity is then heavily promoted and included in that year's Greek Festival marketing. The non-profit organization actively participates in the festival weekend by sending volunteers to help work the admissions booth and any other booths. Previous recipients have noted how helpful this community outreach has been in promoting their mission, expanding their volunteer capacity, and increasing their visibility in the community.
We look forward to connecting with a different local cause each year and making a significant impact in our community.
