Sunday School

"Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6

Saint George strongly encourages regular attendance and participation in both the Divine Liturgy and Sunday School. Sunday School classes are held each Sunday after communion, from September until May. Classes are 45 minutes long (11:30-12:15) for grades K3-12. Currently, there are 185 students enrolled. The curriculum uses sources from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and is based on the instruction of Orthodox worship; scripture and Holy Tradition; iconography; hymnology; and stewardship. In the third and twelfth grades, students are gifted with a special Bible. Annual events include: Blessing of the Waters Service (Aghiasmo); potluck dinner following Vespers and Holy Unction service in commemoration of our Sunday School patron, Saint Nektarios; Christmas pageant; Vasilopita cutting; Godparent Sunday; participation in special Lenten services and alms giving; Saturday of Lazarus Pancake Breakfast; making of the Palm Sunday crosses; Epitaphios decoration; senior coffee; Graduation ceremony; and the highly anticipated Summer Water Park Celebration (students with perfect attendance are admitted for free!).

Important Note About Sunday School:

Parents with children in K3-2nd grades are asked to escort their young ones to class. Students in 3rd grade on up will be directed to their Sunday school rooms. Class ends at 12:15 at which time K3-2nd grade students will be lead upstairs by their teacher to the back of the Hellenic Center near the ladies restroom. The children will be waiting for you there. The older students will be ascending the same stairs and will be asked to come find you during coffee hour. Please do not pick up your children downstairs.
